When you're told you may never ride a bike again, you have two choices: walk away from cycling, or find another way to stay part of it. BICI wasn't born in a boardroom as a calculated business plan. It grew out of a passion for bikes, stubborn determination and the desire to do things differently.
From a hospital bed to our own bike brand
The BICI story began after a serious accident. The doctors' verdict at the time was uncompromising: “Your riding days are over.” For someone who spent every spare moment on a bike, that could have meant walking away from cycling altogether. Instead, the long and frustrating months of recovery led to something unexpected.
If riding was temporarily off the table, there had to be another way to stay close to bikes. That idea gradually became a plan: If I can't ride the way I used to, I still want to be part of cycling. I want to build bikes for other riders — and I want to do it differently. During the recovery process, the foundations of BICI began to take shape, from the first ideas for the brand itself to finding the right manufacturing partners and component suppliers.
Why BICI?
While looking closely at the cycling market, one question kept coming back: Why does a high-performance carbon bike have to cost CZK 150,000 or more?
Traditional bike distribution can involve multiple layers between the manufacturer and the rider — importers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers, each adding costs along the way. At BICI, we chose a more direct approach.
By sourcing directly, keeping our structure lean and building bikes to order, we can put more of your budget into the parts that actually affect the ride: the frame, wheelset, drivetrain and finishing kit.
A more direct route from manufacturer to rider
We're not a conventional online bike shop simply reselling complete bikes from other brands. We source our frames, carbon wheelsets and components directly from carefully selected specialist manufacturers and suppliers, primarily in Asia — one of the key manufacturing hubs of the global bicycle industry.
Rather than relying on a single supplier for an entire bike, we select individual components from manufacturers specialising in their respective areas. This allows us to build each BICI around the combination of performance, reliability, weight and value we're looking for.
The result is a range of bikes offering specifications and components more commonly associated with significantly more expensive builds, with complete BICI bikes priced from approximately CZK 35,000 to CZK 90,000 depending on the model and configuration.
Hand-built in Olomouc
The components may come from abroad, but every complete BICI comes together here in the Czech Republic. Each bike is individually assembled, set up and checked by hand in our workshop in Olomouc.
Once your bike is ready, you can collect it directly from us in Olomouc — coffee included — or we'll carefully pack your fully assembled and adjusted bike for safe delivery to your door.
Built to order: why delivery takes 6–8 weeks
We don't build large quantities of bikes simply to keep them sitting in warehouse stock. Your BICI starts coming together once you place your order.
Direct sourcing of the selected components, followed by individual assembly and final setup in our workshop, takes a little more time than shipping a pre-built bike straight from a warehouse. Our standard lead time is therefore approximately 6–8 weeks.
In return, you get a bike built around the specification you've chosen rather than being limited to whatever happens to be in stock.
Your bike. Your build.
No unnecessary compromises. For each model, you can choose your frame size, colour and component specification to create a bike that fits both your riding goals and your budget.
